Natural Skin Reactions Caused By Waxing

6 Ways To Utilize Pre and Post Care Wax Products

When hair is removed during the waxing process, the skin protectively responds with an inflammatory histamine reaction. This natural response contributes to skin irritation, such as itching or red bumps after wax is removed.

Though there are many factors that impact the overall outcome of a waxing service, proper care of the skin is one of the most important steps to keep in mind.

Tending to the skin with the right products before and after the service will prevent severe skin reactions and reduce the chance of post wax breakouts. It also will also reduce pain potential, fostering an enjoyable waxing experience for the client.

Here are 6 ways pre and post wax products can prevent wax complications while also enhancing the client experience.

1.CLEANSER can be used to thoroughly prep skin and hair for optimal removal.

Not cleansing the skin prior to waxing can increase the  risk of breakouts and contribute to poor wax adherence. Cleansing prior to waxing not only removes makeup, oil and unwanted bacteria, the cleansing motions help loosen any hair that may be slightly ingrown. This step also allows the service provider to evaluate the client’s skin condition and hair growth pattern.

WAXBARE CLEANSER:

This gentle, multi-functioning cleanser adequately prepares the skin for hair removal without dehydrating or stripping the skin barrier. Utilizing functional plant ingredients, this product removes unwanted surface bacteria and excess oil, while leaving the skin well-balanced and refreshed. Its antibacterial properties also make it an excellent post wax finishing product to use on acne prone skin.

2. OIL can be used to create a protective skin barrier and to balance skin conditions that are more likely to be reactive to a waxing procedure.

Clients with dry, sensitive or unbalanced skin are likely to have more severe skin reactions and are at increased risk of skin lifting and low pain tolerance. Addressing dryness, sensitivity or an unbalanced skin barrier prior to the wax application will decrease the potential and severity of waxing complications.

When applying oil, use just enough to reduce flakiness or rough texture. If by accident, too much oil is applied, make sure to remove excess with a paper towel or cotton pad.

WAXBARE OIL:

This soothing, lightweight, pre and post hair removal oil provides a protective skin barrier, helping to prevent damage during the hair removal process. This products leaves the skin feeling smooth, nourished and moisturized post treatment, without clogging pores. We also recommend this product for facial massage.

3. POWDER can help reduce excess moisture.

If too much oil or moisture is present on the skin’s surface,  the wax may have a challenging time spreading and adhering to the hair.

For oily skin types or for warmer skin areas that produce perspiration, apply a small amount of powder to the area prior to waxing to help absorb excess moisture.

Use powder in moderation. The presence of too much powder may also absorb moisture in the wax which will reduce its flexibility, causing some waxes to get brittle and break. Using too much powder can also dehydrate the skin which increases sensitivity and reactivity.

4.TONER can be used to balance and soothe freshly waxed skin.

Leaving the skin in an unbalanced state following the removal of hair can allow adverse reactions such as redness, bumps, hives and itchiness to become more severe.

The use of a TONER can minimize redness, prevent bacteria growth and slow down the skin's inflammatory response, which will reduce the potential for ingrown hairs.

WAXBARE TONER:

This revitalizing toner calms skin post wax treatment, brightens skin and prevents ingrown hairs. Not just for after waxing, this product also serves as an after shave soother and a daily facial toner. Its natural and antioxidant botanicals help to balance skin tone and diminish post inflammatory pigmentation.

5. The application of a SERUM at the completion of a wax service can rebuild hydration and nourish the skin barrier.

Waxing can cause temporary water loss at the skin’s surface, which can contribute to skin tightness, itching and irritation. Applying a hydrating serum post wax provides instant nourishment and promotes healthy skin healing.

For an optimal outcome, have client continue to use a hydrating, antibacterial serum twice daily until post wax irritation has subsided. Adequate hydration combined with gentle exfoliation facilitates healthy hair follicles that are free of build up and bacteria. When skin and hair follicles are maintained they are less likely to produce ingrown hairs or breakouts.

WAXBARE SERUM:

With an active combination of natural herbs, flower botanicals, antioxidants, and pure essentials oils, this highly effective post-wax and aftershave serum will reduce irritation, prevent breakouts and leave the skin feeling nourished and well hydrated.

Keep in mind that minor skin irritation is to be expected following a waxing service due to the protective  inflammatory response that takes place when the hair is removed. Taking the time and effort to effectively care for the skin before and after waxing will reduce the potential for severe reactions, ensure optimal hair removal results and create an enjoyable waxing experience that will keep clients coming back again and again.

6. Utilizing pre and post wax care products that are free from overpowering fragrances and skin irritants can foster an enjoyable client experience.

The scent and feel of products used during a service can have a lasting impression on a client's overall waxing experience.

Use products that contain mild, fresh aromas to create a soothing spa-like experience.

Avoid using any finishing products that leave a sticky, greasy or unpleasant residue on the skin.
